“Bianco Carrara is my other half.

The stone comes from his country, quarried from the same Italian mountains that have given the world its most enduring sculpture. There is something fitting about that. He carries a quiet kind of strength the kind you feel rather than see and Carrara has always struck me the same way. Pure, luminous, certain of itself, with no need to announce anything.

He is a yoga teacher. His days begin in stillness and he has taught me, slowly, the value of that. The practice of arriving in a moment without rushing through it. The discipline of softness. The way a single deep breath can change the temperature of a room.

This candle is what he smells like, and what he feels like to be around. Vetiver at its base, his fragrance, the one I would know in any room. Anise and green leaf and citrus at the top, like a window opened first thing in the morning. Coconut and cedar and violet at the heart, the warmth of skin after the sun. Oakmoss, tonka, amber to settle the whole thing into stillness.

Of all four pieces, this is the most quietly composed. It does not reach for you. It waits, the way a calm room waits and rewards you when you slow down enough to meet it.

I light it in the early hours, when the house is still asleep. It is the candle of beginnings, of breath, of a life chosen carefully and lived gently.”
