Scandinavian Interior Design in Dublin
Considered Nordic interiors shaped by natural materials, craftsmanship and quiet luxury.
Lou Joia Studio is a double-awarded winning, interior design studio specialising in Scandinavian, Nordic and Japandi interiors based in Dublin. We create considered residential spaces that balance simplicity, warmth and functionality, with a particular focus on natural materials, craftsmanship and enduring design.
Our philosophy
Lou Joia Studio is guided by the quiet power of restraint. Rooted in Scandinavian interior design, our work explores the relationship between light, material and atmosphere.
This philosophy extends to the objects we create: sculptural pieces of quiet presence, designed to bring beauty, ritual and meaning into the everyday. At Lou Joia Studio, we design homes and objects that invite people to slow down, live beautifully and find joy in the quiet moments of daily life.
A Nordic Approach to Irish Living
Scandinavian design has always been shaped by its relationship with light, nature and the rhythms of everyday life. At Lou Joia Studio, we interpret these Nordic principles through the particular character of Irish homes.
-
Ireland’s changing light calls for interiors that embrace warmth and softness. Natural oak, stone, linen, wool and tactile finishes bring depth to a restrained palette, while carefully layered lighting creates atmosphere throughout the darker months.
Rather than recreating a Scandinavian aesthetic, we draw on its philosophy of simplicity, functionality and craftsmanship. Combined with Japandi restraint and quiet luxury, these principles allow us to create Irish homes that feel calm and contemporary, yet warm, personal and made for the way people truly live.
-
Scandinavian and Japandi design share a deep appreciation for simplicity, natural materials and thoughtful craftsmanship, but their philosophies are subtly different.
Scandinavian design is rooted in functionality, light and everyday living, creating spaces that feel warm, practical and beautifully considered. Japandi brings together this Nordic simplicity with Japanese principles of restraint, imperfection and intentional space, drawing on ideas such as wabi sabi and ma, the beauty found in what is left unfilled.
At Lou Joia Studio, we often allow the two to meet: the warmth and functionality of Scandinavian design balanced with the quiet restraint of Japanese interiors. The result is a home that feels calm and refined, but never cold or overly minimal.
