Pure and luminous, Bianco Carrara is defined by its soft white ground, delicately traced with fine grey veining. Each piece is entirely unique, revealing its own subtle movement, tonal variation and natural character.

Carved into a sculptural vessel, the stone feels restrained yet expressive. Its pale surface captures the light beautifully, bringing a sense of clarity, balance and permanence to the interior, understated, architectural and inherently timeless.

The fragrance is composed with the structure and complexity of a fine perfume, unfolding through fresh, aromatic and enveloping layers:

  • Top notes: Anise, Green Leaf, Citrus Fruits

  • Heart notes: Coconut, Cedar, Violet

  • Base notes: Oakmoss, Tonka Bean, Amber

Fresh green notes and citrus open the composition before soft coconut, violet and cedar emerge at the heart. Oakmoss, tonka bean and amber settle beneath, leaving a warm, quietly sensual depth.

Hand-poured in Dublin using natural soy wax, each Lou Joia candle is designed as both fragrance and object. Once the candle has burned, the marble vessel remains, an enduring piece to be reused and lived with.

Presented in a hand-sewn black velvet pouch and finished with a discreet Lou Joia brass signature at its base.

Founder’s note

“Bianco Carrara is my other half.

The stone comes from his country, quarried from the same Italian mountains that have given the world its most enduring sculpture. There is something fitting about that. He carries a quiet kind of strength the kind you feel rather than see and Carrara has always struck me the same way. Pure, luminous, certain of itself, with no need to announce anything.

He is a yoga teacher. His days begin in stillness and he has taught me, slowly, the value of that. The practice of arriving in a moment without rushing through it. The discipline of softness. The way a single deep breath can change the temperature of a room.

This candle is what he smells like, and what he feels like to be around. Vetiver at its base, his fragrance, the one I would know in any room. Anise and green leaf and citrus at the top, like a window opened first thing in the morning. Coconut and cedar and violet at the heart, the warmth of skin after the sun. Oakmoss, tonka, amber to settle the whole thing into stillness.

Of all four pieces, this is the most quietly composed. It does not reach for you. It waits, the way a calm room waits and rewards you when you slow down enough to meet it.

I light it in the early hours, when the house is still asleep. It is the candle of beginnings, of breath, of a life chosen carefully and lived gently.”
