Dramatic and deeply architectural, Nero Marquina is defined by its intense black ground, cut through with fine white and warm beige veining. Each piece is entirely unique, revealing its own movement, contrast and natural depth.

Carved into a sculptural vessel, the stone has a strong yet restrained presence. Graphic, tactile and quietly commanding, it brings depth and definition to the interior without excess.

The fragrance is based on the founder’s signature scent and composed with the structure of a fine perfume, where dark fruits meet luminous florals and warm, enveloping woods:

  • Top notes: Blackberry, Mandarin

  • Heart notes: Jasmine, Orange Blossom, Rose

  • Base notes: Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Sandalwood

Blackberry and mandarin open the composition with a deep, luminous freshness, before giving way to a floral heart of jasmine, orange blossom and rose. Vanilla, tonka bean and sandalwood settle beneath, creating a soft, warm and lingering finish.

Hand-poured in Dublin using natural soy wax, each Lou Joia candle is designed as both fragrance and object. Once the candle has burned, the marble vessel remains, an enduring piece to be reused and lived with.

Presented in a hand-sewn black velvet pouch and finished with a discreet Lou Joia brass signature at its base.

Founder’s note

“Some scents you wear. Others become you.

This one has been mine for seventeen years. Before I knew the notes, before I could name what I was drawn to, I knew the feeling of it.

Warmth, closeness, the sense of being home in my own skin.

I have worn it every day since. Through every version of myself, every city, every door I have walked through wanting to be remembered. It is the scent I reach for when I want to feel like myself and the one I reach for when I want to be wanted. Addictive, in the quietest way.

Nero Marquina is the most personal piece I have made. Black and white, the colours of Lou Joia and the two halves of this fragrance. The dark fruits and the radiant florals. The shadow and the light … a scent that is at once an embrace and an invitation.

I wanted to give it a vessel that could hold all of that. Stone because some things deserve permanence. Marble because no two pieces are the same and neither are the people who will live with it.
